Growing up, I never understood my curly hair. No one did. The beauty standard was straight hair. With this being said, my only option was to employ relaxers and hair straighteners on a regular basis. Eventually one day the relaxer was gone, and I was left with a frizzy mess. Like most girls with curly hair, I was overwhelmed with trying to make sense of my curls. Kids that age were not so nice. As I matured, however, I began to develop an intense appreciation for my distinctive hair. In this, I became enthralled with understanding, not only my curls, but everyone else’s; with this new love, I began my journey to becoming a licensed hair-stylist. I graduated from the Aveda Institute in Denver Colorado in 2019. Around the halfway mark in my learning at Aveda, I began studying curly hair at More Than Curly Salon, for two years. Today, I can say I understand all curly hair— from the loosest texture to the tightest. I am here to help the next person, not only understand, but embrace every curl and coil that grows out of their head.
